What an audit actually asks for

An audit rarely stops at the certificate on the wall. It asks whether the documents match the machine: the material certificate for the steel, the qualified welding procedure, the inspection and test record carrying the crane's own serial number, and the EU Declaration of Conformity that names it. Quality is that chain, not a single document.

The chain is easier to keep intact when it does not cross a supplier border halfway through. We design the crane, cut and weld the structure, build the lifting machine and test the finished system in our own plant, so every stage is documented from one place.

Quality

Our certificates

  • ISO 9001 — quality management, covering the design, manufacture, sale and after-sales service of electric overhead travelling cranes
  • ISO 14001 — environmental management
  • ISO 45001 — occupational health and safety management
  • EN 1090-1 — factory production control for load-bearing steel structures, up to execution class EXC3
  • EN 1090-2 — welding certificate for load-bearing steel structures
  • EN ISO 3834-2 — comprehensive quality requirements for fusion welding
  • TS EN 15011+A1 — conformity certificate for electrically driven overhead and gantry cranes, 0.5 t to 250 t
  • TS 12578 — service competence certificate
  • CE marking with an EU Declaration of Conformity for every machine
  • ATEX product certification for explosion-protected cranes, issued per product

Current copies can be supplied for your project.

Why the welding certificates matter. A crane is a load-bearing welded steel structure before it is a machine. EN 1090-1 puts our factory production control under third-party surveillance for structural steelwork up to execution class EXC3, and EN ISO 3834-2 covers the welding itself. Most of what fails on a badly built crane fails at a weld.

Duty class quietly decides how long a crane lasts, and it belongs to a mechanism rather than to the machine, so the hoist and the travel drives on the same crane can come out in different groups. Duty class guide →

From material to weld

Incoming material. Plate, profile, wire rope, hooks and castings enter production against the supplier's material certificate, recorded under the batch they belong to. Hooks are supplied to DIN 15401 / 15402. A batch that cannot be traced to its certificate does not go into a crane.

Welding. Welding runs under our EN 1090-2 and EN ISO 3834-2 approvals, which cover the qualification of procedures and personnel and the inspection carried out before, during and after welding, under a named welding coordinator. Girders and end carriages are welded with submerged arc equipment on a rotating positioner, so the weld runs flat rather than around a fixed beam.

Inspection. Structural welds are checked dimensionally, and non-destructive testing is applied to critical welds to the extent the project's inspection and test plan defines. Measuring and test equipment is calibrated by an accredited laboratory on an annual plan, because an inspection record is only worth the instrument behind it.

Load testing in our own plant

A crane leaves our plant with its own inspection and test report, filled in against the machine's serial number rather than against the model.

The machine is run through a static test at 125% and a dynamic test at 110% of its rated capacity, and the report records what was measured while it ran: hoisting and lowering voltage and current at each speed, motor and inverter data, brake type and resistance, rope or chain type and length, travel values, and the hook opening measured before and after the test to show that nothing deformed under load.

That last measurement is the point of the exercise. A load test is not a ceremony: it is how a manufacturer shows that the machine carries its rated load, that the brakes hold it, and that nothing moved permanently while it did. Factory Acceptance Testing with your representative present can be arranged on the same basis.

Corrosion protection

Paint is the part of a crane that meets the plant's atmosphere every day, so it is specified against the environment rather than against a colour. We work to ISO 12944, and the corrosion category comes from where the crane will actually stand.

CategoryTypical environmentTotal dry film thickness
C2-MWarehouses, stores, assembly halls100 µm
C3-MMachining and general production halls, urban outdoor gantries160 µm
C4-MPaper mills, plants with chemical vapour, refinery and shipyard outdoor gantries180 µm
C5-MSteelworks, acidic or corrosive atmospheres, coastal and port structures240 µm

Film thickness is measured and recorded for the job.

The documents behind your crane

Every machine has a technical file built around it rather than a generic folder, and we can supply it in full for your project:

  1. EU Declaration of Conformity naming the machine and its type
  2. Technical file — drawings and electrical project
  3. Material certificates for the steel and the critical components
  4. Final inspection and test report with the measured load test values
  5. Spare parts list for the lifting machine and the hook block
  6. Operation and maintenance manual
  7. Commissioning and handover record

Our management system, steelwork and welding certificates can be supplied alongside it. Tell us at quotation stage which documents your process needs, and they are prepared with the project. Document and datasheet library →

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What documents should a crane manufacturer be able to give me?

An EU Declaration of Conformity naming the machine, the technical file, material certificates, the final inspection and load test report, the operation and maintenance manual and a spare parts list, plus the management system, steelwork and welding certificates. We can supply all of these for a project; say which ones your process needs at quotation stage. The test that matters is whether each document names your machine, because a generic document proves the supplier, not the crane.

What does CE marking actually mean on an overhead crane?

It means the manufacturer declares the machine meets the essential health and safety requirements of the directives that apply to it, and can show a technical file that supports the declaration. It is a declaration backed by a file, not a badge bought from a body, which is why the file behind it is the part worth asking about.

Is the crane load tested before it leaves the plant?

Yes, in our own plant, and the results are recorded on the machine's own inspection and test report: a static test at 125% and a dynamic test at 110% of rated capacity, with the electrical and brake values measured while it runs and the hook opening checked before and after. Factory Acceptance Testing with your representative present can be arranged.

What do EN 1090 and EN ISO 3834 have to do with a crane?

A crane girder is a load-bearing welded steel structure, and these two standards govern how it is made. EN 1090-1 places our factory production control under third-party surveillance up to execution class EXC3; EN ISO 3834-2 covers the welding procedures, the qualification of welders and the inspection around each weld. If a manufacturer holds neither, nothing independent is checking the welds that carry the load.

What happens if a nonconformity is found during production?

It is recorded and closed through a corrective action, with the cause, the action and the verification written down, whether it came from an incoming batch, from our own production or from a customer. We would rather show a system that catches and records problems than claim they do not occur.
